Nuno Palma Ferro, born on July 11, 1970, is originally from Luanda, Angola, and has lived in Beja since 1971.

He is the Mayor of Beja and Vice-President of the Baixo Alentejo Intermunicipal Community (CIMBAL), one of the entities responsible for the European City of Wine 2026 candidacy. He is also President of the Board of CEBAL – Center for Biotechnology and Agricultural and Agri-Food Studies of Alentejo, and a co-opted member of the General Council of the Polytechnic Institute of Beja.

He holds a Master’s degree in Mathematics Teaching and a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics Teaching from the University of Évora. Since 1994, he has worked as a teacher in primary and secondary education at Escola D. Manuel I in Beja. Simultaneously, between 1999 and 2005, he taught in higher education at the School of Technology and Management of IPBeja.

His current role as Mayor has contributed to his understanding of territorial challenges and opportunities, strengthening coordination among institutions, communities, and regional stakeholders, while also enhancing his leadership, planning, and coordination skills.

Among other responsibilities, he oversees the Sports Department at Beja City Council and has maintained a continuous connection to sports activities as a sports executive. He has also worked as a tennis and roller hockey coach and was himself a roller hockey athlete. Nuno Palma Ferro is committed to sporting values, has had a direct impact on the development of young athletes, and has contributed to the growth and recognition of sports in the municipality.
